Turbine installation for small hydroelectric plants can be carried out either horizontally or vertically. The water jet, which exits the nozzle, strikes the turbine blades tangentially at high speed. The blades are made from two welded parts in the shape of a single or double bucket.
The water flow onto the turbine blades is regulated using a needle in the nozzle. The needle is moved by servomotors, allowing precise control of the water flow. In front of the nozzle, there is also a deflector, whose function is to redirect the water jet when there is a sudden pressure increase due to the closing of the needle, thereby reducing the load on the blades.
Pelton turbines for hydroelectric plants can achieve power outputs of up to 250 MW, with an efficiency ranging from 85% to 92%.
