The Kaplan turbine is an axial-flow reaction water turbine with radial inflow and axial outflow. It is designed for high flow rates and low heads. Kaplan turbines achieve excellent efficiency across a wide range of flow rates, often exceeding 92%. Due to their adjustable runner blades and guide vanes, Kaplan turbines provide highly flexible operation and are widely used in run-of-river and low-head hydropower plants.
