Many variations of Kaplan hydro turbines exist, one is Pit type turbine as in the picture.
Pit type turbines are bulb turbines with direct driven or via gear box or via belt driven generators.

That is beautiful scenery and unspoiled nature from Slovenia. On the left side you can see the place of new hydro power plant with Siapro Kaplan turbine under construction at the moment. This nature is one reason more to use hydropower as one of the most eco promising renewable energy sources.
